Facebook Will Soon Get Linked in Style Profile Tags

  • NEW DELHI: As Snapchat and WhatsApp continue capturing users' mind-share, world's biggest social network Facebook is trying to reinvent itself in order to stay relevant.

  • It seems Facebook has taken cues from LinkedIn for its latest feature: profile tags. Professional networking website LinkedIn has had for long profile tags that let others describe your skills. Facebook is bringing the same feature to its platform, but making it a little personal.

  • First spotted by The Verge, these profile tags allow friends to describe your personality, with no limits on what they tag. For example, one Facebook profile included tags like 'Designer' and 'Unbreakable', and also 'Rockstar leggings' and 'Plays hearthstone'. Tags can be plain text as well as in emojis.

  • While friends can tag anything they want, they will not appear on your profile unless you accept them; you may also choose to ignore or decline the tag notifications. Once approved, these tags will appear on your timeline, and can be 'liked' by friends.

  • In a statement to The Verge, Facebook said, "Profile tags are a creative tool that lets you and your friends add tags to your profile to highlight the things that describe you and what you're into." The company is currently testing profile tags in New Zealand only.
